UK Education

Our strategy in the UK is to support education and training in its widest sense. A proportion of our funds are expended in Suffolk and East Anglia where our Founder Frank Jackson lived and worked.  Below is information on a selection of the UK organisations supported under this theme. For more information please follow the links to the organisational websites.

Sail training and outward bound education

Under this theme the Foundation provides grants to the Island Trust, Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and Cirdan Sailing Trust.  These organisations provide life changing experiences for disadvantaged, disabled or sick young people.

Sailing provides these young people with life-long ‘outside the classroom’ challenges and education in team work, leadership, resilience, motivation, confidence, self-esteem, tolerance and communication.  On sail based residential and day adventures the young people learn how to sail, and work together to care for the boat, themselves and each other.

Green Light Trust

The Green Light Trust uses the power of nature to support, educate and train adults and children suffering various forms of mental health issues or disadvantages.

In their woodlands across Suffolk they offer courses to refugee children, adults with mental illness, children excluded from school, adults with learning disabilities and many more. The Green Light Trust’s woodland based conservation training gives people hope, healing and opportunities to play a meaningful role in society.

Physics Partners

The Foundation supports core costs for this dynamic charity providing hands-on training and ongoing support for everyone teaching physics, especially non-specialists such as biology and chemistry teachers. Physics Partners also inspires pupils by showing them the exciting opportunities that studying physics can open up, using hands-on study days, careers events and inspiring competitions.

Suffolk Community Foundation

The Foundation supports work in Suffolk, which was the home of our founder, with small grants awarded in partnership with the Suffolk Community Foundation.  Suffolk Community Foundation have a well-established and knowledgeable team on the ground who know the needs of the local communities and the charities working there.  They are therefore able to direct the Foundation’s grants to very deserving causes which have recently included ActivLives, Horringer Pre-School, Suffolk Family Carers and the Seagull Theatre.
